İnsan neyle yaşar sorusunun cevabıydı “kadın”.

Babama desem ki, “‘Baba, sen bana adam olamazsın derdin ama bak ben Superman oldum”, kuvvetle muhtemel bana diyeceği şey, “Sigortası var mı?” olur.

Usulca uzandım, çünkü “Beni öper misin?” diye soran kadın, yarın “Beni niye aramıyorsun?” diye trip atacak kadın olacaktı.
Tahmini zorlukları atlatmıştım, ama şimdi daha zorlu bir sınav beni bekliyordu. Sevgili olmadığınızı karşınızdakine nasıl anlatırsınız sınavı.
Derken aşık olur adamımız… ama niye? Ama kime? Ama nasıl?
Sen benim canımsın, işte ben o yüzden ölemiyorum.

Blog için ''Saçma sapan ama acayip eğlenceliydi''yi ifade eden ayrı bir yıldız yapmam lazım sanırım çünkü bu kitaba ondan lazım. Kahramanımız Hüsnü kadın diyor, börek diyor, bol bol da küfür ediyor. Nitekim aşık olunca liseli kız çocuğuna dönüyor.

Dizüstü edebiyatın varlığından bile haberim yoktu benim ama iyi ki oldu. Gece yatakta okurken başladı benim kahkahalar, ev sakinlerini, daha doğrusu teyzem sadece, ''n'oooluyo buna?'' odama koşturdu. Motorda, otobüste de dayanamayıp kahkahayı patlatarak milletin ''deli bu kız'' bakışlarına aldırmadan katıla katıla güldüm. ''Ben kopuyorum siz orda öylece somurtuyorsunuz, derdinize yanın!'' bile dedim içimden.

Bazı kısımlar biraz When Harry Met Sally'yi andırsa da, Harry veya Sally bu kitabı okuyacak olsalar ''biz de amma bayıkmışız ya!'' derler herhalde.

Sevdiğim kısımları paylaşmayı düşündüm önce ama ben kitabı okumadan o kısımları benimle paylaşmış olsalardı çok sinirlenirdim. O yüzden sadece bir tane paylaşıyorum çıtır çerez niyetine: ''Misafirlikte sıçıp da sifonu çekince bir türlü gitmek bilmeyen bok gibidir eski sevgili.''

I believe I'll have to make "it was silly, but a lot fun" stars for the blog 'cos this book fits just that. Our hero, Husnu, like women, he likes flaky Turkish pastries and he curses a lot. A LOT. But when he falls in love, he turns into a high school girl.

I hadn't even heard of "lap top" literature before, but I'm glad I finally did. When I was reading in bed in the middle of the night, this book made my aunt rush into my room with a "what the hell's going on with this girl?" look in her face 'cos I was laughing to hard and so loud. On the boat, on the bus, I kept cracking up as I read and got a lot of nuh-uh stares from other people. Yet, I just silently said to myself, "I'm laughing, and you're sitting there sulking, so the joke's on you!"

Some parts of the book were very When-Harry-Met-Sally-esque, but I'm sure if Harry or Sally read this, they'd say, "I can't believe how boring we were."

I thought of sharing some of my favorite parts, but if someone shared them with me before I read the book, I'd be very pissed. Therefore, I'm giving you only one: "ex girlfriends/boyfriends are like the poop that doesn't go away no matter how much you flush when you're a guest at someone's house."

In My Mailbox (#4)

In my Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren in which bloggers share the books they have received each week.

 

These I bought Thursday because they came highly recommended from a lot of friends. I'm already almost finished with the one on the right, and I cannot stop laughing. I kinda hate myself sometimes when I realize what I'm laughing at, but I keep laughing out loud nevertheless. So much so that I get weird stares on the bus, and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy. All in all, sometimes we all need some mindless entertainment, and I'd rather read than watch TV.

P.S. My sister has started reading the one on the left, and she's in my state of mind as well.

Bunları Perşembe günü aldım çünkü herkes ne kadar şahane ama daha önemlisi ne kadar komik olduklarından bahsedip duruyor. Sağdakini bitirmeme az kaldı ve cidden kendimi tutamayarak yüksek sesle gülüyorum okurken. Bazen neye güldüğümün farkına varınca da kendime sinir oluyorum ne kadar saçma sapan şeylere kopuyorum diye, ama yine de aynen gülmeye devam ediyorum. O kadar gülüyorum ki hatta otobüste millet ''deli mi bu kız'' bakışları atıyor bana. Bazen hepimizin kafa dağıtacak birşeylere ihtiyacı var ve televizyon seyretmek yerine okumayı tercih ederim.

P.S. Kardeşim de soldakini okumaya başladı. O da benimle aynı durumda. Okuyup okuyup dağılıyoruz.

Why am I getting nuts over a book that doesn't even have a cover? Am I crazy? A little bit, but that's not the point. All the BDB books up to now have belonged to a male warrior. Payne is the first female to get her own book, and this time we're up for a female vampire - male human romance.

Exciting, no? March 29th feels so so so far away right now, but I'm hoping it'll get here in the blink of an eye.

Book Review: Secret Lives of Great Authors by Robert Schnakenberg

Having said that, there are also things that I've never heard of before. It's such a quick read where you can read one author's story, put the book down and then pick it up again later. Insightful and humorous, it reminded me that my favorite authors have flaws (some of which are BIG!), but it just made me love them even more. 


Here are some of them that I didn't know about before (SPOILER ALERT!):
- Lewis Carroll was an inventor.
- During most of their childhoods both Oscar Wilde and Ernest Hemingway were dressed in girls' clothing by their mothers. 
- Hemingway also wore frilly underpants.
- Kafka spent time at a nudist health spa, but he refused to take his clothes off.
- Virginia Woolf got the inspiration form his painter sister and wrote standing up toward the end of her career.
- Sylvia Plath took an IQ test in 1944, and scored a genius-level 166. 
- When she was working as an editor, Toni Morrison used to send her own money to struggling writers she believed in.
- Lord Byron kept snippets of his girlfriends' pubic hair in envelopes and he had A LOT of them.
- Edgar Allan Poe went to school by the cemetery, and his teachers would make them find out how old the dead people were when they died by using the dates on their headstones.

I thought of this yesterday. I cannot tell whether it will end up being weekly, bi-weekly; monthly or bi-monthly... As the title says, it's "random" discoveries, so I'll be sharing randomly as they come.

I came across this yesterday when I was reading the 'Books' section of a newspaper at lunchtime at work.  It's recently published in Turkish, and the article was talking about how the angel madness is conquering the world. It also talked about how the book pulls from myths, which perked my interest. So today I went into a bookstore and read the first 5 - 6 pages of it. The translation felt fine, and I seemed to not want to put it down. Unfortunately, I'm currently broke, but I'll most likely pick it up next week.

Whoa! I was thinking before I started Mockingjay, the third book in The Hunger Games series, I'd read something else, but now I feel like it's going to be impossible. Catching Fire ends at such a cliff hanger that I HAVE TO KNOW what's next.

This time Capitol is literally angry and it wants revenge. Because of what our heroine Katniss did in the previous games, she's put herself and everyone she loves in great danger. It sounds silly when I say it like this, but trust me, it's very, VERY exciting while reading about it.

The set up of the Hunger Games was the most exciting for me. It was very well thought out, and I couldn't even see most of the secrets and surprises coming. Yeah, I did think at times, "something smells fishy," but I so couldn't tell what kinda fish. Someone saves somebody or someone dies willingly, and it leaves you wondering, "whyyyyy the hell!"

I loved the fact that most of the participants of the Hunger Games were friends or at least knew each other from before. It creates a great wave of emotion which leaves you wondering how the hell you would kill someone you're used to seeing every day even if it meant you got to live.

In most of the reviews I've read, people seem to be very excited about seeing more of Peeta and Gale and the whole romance. For me, those were way in the background because of all the action and the schemes. I honestly don't care whom you have babies with, Katniss, just bring Capitol down!

Serinin üçüncü kitabı olan Alaycı Kuş'u okumadan önce arada başka bir kitap okurum diyordum ama sanırım bu mümkün olmayacak. Ateşi Yakalamak öyle bir bitti ki, sonrasında ne olduğunu acilen öğrenmem lazım.

Capitol bu sefer gerçekten sinirli ve intikam istiyor. Katniss'in önceki oyunların sonunda yaptığından dolayı başı belada ve sevdiklerini de tehlikeye atmış durumda. Böyle söyleyince kulağa saçma ve basit geliyor ama okurken gerçekten çok heyecanlı.

Bu seferki açlık oyunlarının kurulumu benim için kitabın en heyecanlı kısmıydı. Herşey çok iyi düşünülmüştü ve meydana çıkacak sırları ve sürprizleri önceden tahmin edemedim. Bazı zamanlar 'bu işte bir iş var' diye şüphelendiğim olmadı değil ama o işin ne işi olabileceğini düşünemedim. Birisi birisini ölümden kurtarıyor, biri diğerleri için kendini feda ediyor ve ''NEDEEEEEEEEN'' diye sorarak kalıyor insan.

Açlık Oyunları'na katılanların çoğunun arkadaş olması ya da daha önceden bir şekilde birbirlerini tanıyor olmaları çok hoşuma gitti. Mecbur kalsaydım hayatta kalmak için hergün görmeye alışık olduğum hatta sevdiğim birini öldürebilir miydim diye düşündürdü çoğu kez.

Okuduğum yorumların çoğunda yazanlar Peeta ve Gale'in daha fazla görünmesine seviniyor ve aşk olayları için heyecanlanıyorlardı. Doğrusunu söylemek gerekirse benim için aşk konusu tüm aksiyonun çok çok arkasında kaldı. Katniss'in bebeğinin kimden olduğu umrumda bile değil, yeter ki şu Capitol'ün icabına baksınlar.

How the Whale Became & Other Stories: Ted Hughes

Ted Hughes' classic creation tales for young children are now published in full-colour for the first time, accompanied by stunning illustrations from the award-winning artist Jackie Morris. This collection of eleven evocative, accessible and funny stories for children of 5+ tells how a particular animal came to be as it is now. The Whale grew up in God's vegetable patch but was banished to sea when he became too large and crushed all His carrots; the Polar Bear was lured to the North Pole by the other animals who were jealous that she always won the annual beauty contest; the Hare has asked the moon to marry him but can never stretch his ears high enough to hear her reply; the Bee must sip honey all day long to sweeten the bitter demon that runs through his veins . . . each story is a delight for reading alone or aloud. 

I believe this is the first Ted Hughes book I've ever read. If I did read anything else of his, I honestly don't remember. If they're all like this one, I'd definitely like to check them out.

I've read the Turkish translation version, so I have no idea what the "other stories" in the English version are. In the one I read, though, it starts with how the whale became, and then it moves onto other animals. All of them were absolutely adorable, yet the whale was my favorite. And I especially loved god's role in creating all of them, but I'm not going to get into the reasons...

I think this is an enjoyable read for both kids and adults. And it definitely makes great bedtime stories whether someone reads them to you or you read them yourself.
