Bookspotting #3 / Kim Ne Okuyor #3

7.23.2011

One of the books I've spotted this week is Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. I don't have a good history with this author: I started reading The Da Vinci Code when it came out and left it half way. Then, I thought I'd try Angels and Demons, but that didn't work out either. I guess somehow he's not my cup of tea.

I'm rather ashamed to say that I've never read any Bukowski ever. I've always wanted to check him out, though, and this is definitely one I'd like to start with.

Şimdiye kadar hiç Bukowski okumamış olmanın utancını yaşıyorum. Bu kitap da ilk okumak istediklerimden....

With Bukowski, the votes are still coming in. There seems to be no middle ground—people seem either to love him or hate him. Tales of his own life and doings are as wild and weird as the very stories he writes. In a sense, Bukowski was a legend in his time . . . a madman, a recluse, a lover . . . tender, vicious . . . never the same . . . these are exceptional stories that come pounding out of his violent and depraved life . . . horrible and holy, you cannot read them and ever come away the same again.

Bookspotting #2 / Kim Ne Okuyor #2

7.16.2011

I guess now that I've started making note of what I see, people have stopped reading. Or, they only read when they take long trips. OR, it's too hot to read, which makes the most sense to me because Istanbul heat turns one's brain into jell-o.

This is one I've seen a couple of people reading this week.  I've also seen it on the "New Releases" section of almost every book shop I walked into. Simply put, it's about saying "fuck it" to what others think and say about you and going ahead and doing whatever you want. The back cover says it shows you how to find a way to say "fuck it" to all your problems. I personally have no interest in reading it.

Karamsarlık adamı hasta eder, dert, tasa ülser yapar, hüzün cildi kırıştırır, "Of"layıp durmak çevreyi kirletir!
Bir ara verin. Tatil yapın. Beyninizi gezmeye çıkartın.
Bu kitap, ister yazın okuyun, ister başka mevsim, "yazlık" havasında. Yani gevşek, sakin, neşeli...
Bir kumsalda, şezlonga uzanmış, karpuz yiyerek okuduğunuzu hayal edin.
Ve içinizi aydınlık tutun!

BOOKSPOTTING #1

7.10.2011

I always check out what people are reading around me, and if I manage to remember what the titles are, I Google them later to see if I'd wanna check them out. So, I'm gonna try and post about what I've come across on Sundays.

A guy at the bus station on my way to Edirne was reading Halo by Alexandra Adornetto on Saturday. I don't wanna sound like I'm discriminating, but I usually see ladies reading these kind of books.

Three angels- Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, the youngest and most human- are sent by Heaven to bring good to a world falling under the influence of darkness. They must work hard to conceal their luminous glow, superhuman powers, and, most dangerous of all, their wings, all the while avoiding all human attachments.

Then Bethany meets Xavier Woods, and neither of them is able to resist the attraction between them. Gabriel and Ivy do everything in their power to intervene, but the bond between Xavier and Bethany seems too strong.

The angel’s mission is urgent, and dark forces are threatening. Will love ruin Bethany or save her?
Have you read it? Are you planning on reading it? I realized I had marked it as "to-read" on GoodReads, but I doubt that I'll get around to it.
